At LONGHOUSE, we draw inspiration from the legacy of collaboration and democratic thinking of the indigenous tribes of North America and the philosophy of enlightenment that emanated from Europe. We believe those values, as embodied in the unique experiences our partners bring to the table, can help policymakers, philanthropists, organizations, and businesses foster the collaboration they need to thrive.
We named our firm longhouse for the gathering place that is historically the center of life for the Iroquois nations. With its floor representing the earth and its roof the sky, the longhouse was both a home that provided shelter and the room where contracts were made, relationships formed, and leaders chosen. By tradition, all within formed a connection between nations born of trust, a mutual sense of purpose, and a search for peace.
Similarly The Enlightenment that helped shape American democracy at its dawn and that remains a leading influence in the arts is shared within the construct of LONGHOUSE today. A powerful tool for shaping opinions and driving collaboration, the arts are a soft power that deepen conversations and lead to a more meaningful and profound understanding of global issues.
Today's debate on politics, technology and sustainability is critical and urgent and can best be addressed in spaces enriched and enlivened by cultural and artistic connections. These spaces have the power to impact the world.
